ULUWATU INDULGENCE : The Ungasan Clifftop Resort

the ungasan

Are you on Instagram and follow the bazillions of Bali bloggers taking pictures in paradise. Well if you are, I am sure you have seen the amazing shots, all with hash tags like #uluwatu #bluepoint #sulubanbeach #singlefin, etc, etc, and wished that it was you there on the cliff tops looking out at that big blue ocean holding a coconut in your hand. Uluwatu –  it truly is a magical spot, situated at the southernmost tip of south Bali and filled with the most picturesque luxury villas and resorts, nearly all of them sitting on the towering limestone cliffs facing the glistening waters of the Indian ocean.

With most of the islands 5 star property’s all situated in this region – the choice of which property to stay at can sometimes be hard. Let the Snobs step in and help you out here – just recently we decided a mini vacay to Uluwatu was in order – and (like you) had seen so many beautiful pictures, but liked what we saw of The Ungasan on Instagram and promptly decided this is where we wanted to be.

the ungasan

Bags packed, blue bird taxi booked we were quietly excited to be heading to the Ungasan to see for ourselves this stunning picturesque place.

Pulling up to the entrance of this extremely impressive property, we were greeted by the gorgeous staff all welcoming us to the Ungasan – walking through to the reception area – it is then that you are overwhelmed by the beauty of this villa style resort. Nothing but green grass stretches out in front of you, then disappears down the cliff face and than you are greeted with the panoramic view of the big blue of the ocean.

The Ungasan

The Ungasan offers 7 unique villas, all architecturally designed tropical style and all overlooking the ocean. 5 of the villas can sleep up to 10 guests. We stayed in Villa Chintamani, which can sleep up to 14 guests – all bedrooms have a private plunge pool, bale and garden decking and a humungous but romantic master bedroom, a gorgeous bathroom with a bathtub big enough to swim in. The beauty of this property is even though Villa Chintamani offers 7 completely private bedrooms all separated by lush tropical gardens, it can be booked as a 1 bedroom, meaning you get to stay in a lux villa compound but only have to book 1 of the bedrooms. Brilliant! Villa Chintamani like the other 7 villas sits on the cliff top and faces the ocean – with a super long beautiful infinity pool which can be used by the other guests staying in Chintamani, dreamy comfy day beds, a million dollar view, and a butler to take care of your every need – you will have to pinch yourself to make sure you are not actually dreaming.

the ungasan

Chintamani offers plenty,  boasting 24 hour room service, nanny service (need to book) private butler, full bar service, private chef (upon request) car and driver, Wi-Fi, garden and cliff edge bale’s. The luxury is really laid on, I found it so easy to do absolutely nothing but take in the beauty that surrounded this gorgeous Balinese compound.

The Ungasan offers everything you can imagine – so you might think about leaving to explore the area … but with everything there at your fingertips, or the butler’s fingertips, I doubt you will want to leave.

the ungasan

Sundays Beach Club is a 3 minutes breathtaking inclinator ride down the cliff face and provides a stunning beach on par with anything I have seen anywhere in the world. White sand, crystal clear blue waters, cocktails, day beds, bean bags, a fantastic food menu, smiling staff to look after you, paddle boards, it literally has everything – and if you get bored of sitting around your private pool – well this makes an exciting and fun change. Even though Sunday’s is open to everyone, Resort guests get priority over day-trippers, which is fantastic.

Sunsets here are spectacular as you literally have a front row seat to the nightly show – whether you decide to take it in from Sundays beach club or your villa – be assured – this is a must do for every evening you spend at the Ungasan.

the ungasan

Dinner at Selatun is a great experience; this beautiful restaurant sits at the top of the cliff taking in the spectacular view. The chef does a great job with western and of course local cuisine and I can assure you the cocktails are shaken to perfection.

With a tennis court, putting green, spa, and restaurant – this place is pure perfection. Everything is there for you and if its not – speak to Indra, the ever helpful Guest Services Manager – he can make magic happen.

the ungasan

Looking to spoil yourself at a Lust after cliff top resort (of course your are) Us snobs can highly upon highly recommend The Ungasan for that special sweet getaway and there is no better time to book as at Nov / Dec 2016 The Ungasan are celebrating their 5th birthday and offering 35% off all bookings when placed directly thru them.

Get on it guys – this place is pure paradise.

ADDICTED TO PARADISE : Villa Coral Nusa Lembongan

villa coral nusa lembongan

It’s no secret that our go to getaway when we need to escape the silly that sometimes Seminyak is known for is Nusa Lembongan. We are pretty fussy about where we stay returning to our favorites again and again. But this time we thought – lets mix it up and try somewhere completely different. We got in touch with our friends at The Lembongan Traveller, who told us about a brand spanking new beach front villa in a secluded part of the island, so beach front in fact, you have to walk across the white sand to gain entry. Hello – book us in!

villa coral beach front

I must admit I was pretty excited to try some new digs on the island, a change is as good as a holiday, and that’s what we are on Lembongan for. As the Rocky’s Van made its way through the bumpy roads and overgrown foliage we were pretty eager to get to this new villa we had heard so much about – Villa Coral. Pulling up on a narrow road right next to Tamarind Beach – I knew I was staying somewhere absolutely beach front when the waves were lapping at my feet as I was wheeling my luggage as promised thru the white sand to get to Villa Corals entrance. We were not disappointed by what greeted us.

villa coral nusa lembongan

Very large and lovely, modern but in an elegant island style way this villa is cleverly designed so every inch of the bay is captured from every point of this double story villa.

This beach front beauty is tucked away in a private and very quiet part of the island, it’s truly beautiful, with every amenity that you will need during your stay provided for you. With four staff to take care of everything – all you need to do is sit back and do nothing – something I’m very good at.

villa coral nusa lembongan

The villa has 4 enormous, repeat ENORMOUS, air-conditioned bedrooms, each with king size beds and very generous ensuite bathrooms – all bedrooms have views of the beach and bay that stretch out as far as the eye can see.

villa coral nusa lembongan

We spent our days by or I should say laying in the infinity pool taking in the impressive outlook – the star of the show being Mt Agung – which, when he makes an appearance is seen perfectly from every location in this villa.

mount agung villa coral

The poolside bar got a good work out– that impressive stainless steel refrigerator kept our champagne chilled to perfection. The staff were always on hand with menus from local warungs and happily ordered delicious meals for us, collected them and lay out our dishes for us in the beautiful open-air dining area overlooking the pool and the beach.

Breakfast at villa coral is a great way to start your day – the staff cook up a some tasty treats that will keep you full right thru to lunch – so good in fact – we requested 2nd servings (my constant diet was forgotten for this getaway).

breakfast villa coral

This villa is literally on the beach! When the tide comes in – you open the front gate – and the waves almost reach the beautiful stone boundary. A walk along the beach you will find local fisherman untangling their nets whilst their young children play in the rock pools and waves.

At night take in the sunset from the poolside bar – or the view is just as good if not better from the upstairs lounge area.

With an air- conditioned entertainment room that also doubles as a massage room – This villa has everything to ensure your holiday is perfect in every way.

villa coral

There is lots to do on this island paradise, snorkel, explore, etc., but we have been to Lembongan many times before, so we decided just to chillax and enjoy everything that Villa Coral had to offer – that being the peaceful and secluded position – leaving us with the feeling that we had this whole stretch of beach to ourselves.

villa coral

Villa Coral is most certainly a beachfront beauty, a picture perfect position which will ensure your island getaway is as every bit as wonderful as the view it looks out to.

The Lembongan Traveller have this island covered – they can match you and your requirements to the perfect villa and book snorkelling trips, boating trips,  you want to do something – TLT can assist you.

If you haven’t been to Nusa Lembongan – can i suggest you put it on your itinerary next time you visit Bali – only a 30 minute boat ride from Sanur, i can promise you, you will become addicted.

Villa Coral can be booked through The Lembongan Traveller

Snobbing it in Sanur : Fairmont Sanur

sanur beach

Its been so long, years in fact since I hopped on the vespa and took a scoot down to Sanur, and with noisy workmen trouncing in and out of our villa here in Seminyak – we were looking for somewhere quiet to spend some time. The day trip turned in to an overnighter, when we discovered that our noisy friends were going to take another day to fix our AC issues. Righto, where should we stay ?? Having been following the Fairmont Sanur on instagram for ages (the reason it ignited my interest in Sanur) the decision was pretty easy. Called them, locked in a night and off we went.

Not too sure what to expect, as I mentioned I think it had been over 6 years since I had visited this sleepy fishing village. We were in love when we turned in to the leafy quiet stretch of Jalan Danau Tamblingan which is the main drag of Sanur – the complete opposite to Jalan Oberoi.

fairmont sanur

We rolled into the Fairmont and we were taken aback at how beautiful and grand this property is, high thatched roofs with dark wooden beams, all open with the cool breeze coming thru off the beach – which you could just see thru the top of the palms trees.

lush and green fairmont sanur

After checking in we were given a quick tour of the resort – this lady is big, the grounds are HUGE, the gardens are green, lush and tropically beautiful. Excited now to see our room – I was totally WOW’d when we walked into the cool comfort of our Garden View Suite – the room was enormous! 95 sqm in fact. Featuring a spacious bathroom with separate shower, toilet and a bath big enough to sail a ship in. The bedroom area was stunning – king size bed and then slide the glass doors open to your own outdoor terrace, with a day bed, dining area, another tv and huge minibar, looking over the stunning green gardens and with a good view of the ocean. I was in resort heaven.

garden suite room

garden suite terrace

fairmont sanur

The sky was blue so I was desperate to get to check out the beach and lay by the pool. And like everything else at the Fairmont – this infinity pool is humongous – 50m long ! All overlooking the gorgeousness of the golden sand and blue waters of Sanur beach. I was in paradise. Cocktail, tick, swim tick, another cocktail tick …. This afternoon was turning out perfectly – just how I like it.

pool side fairmont sanur

Grabbing myself the pool bar menu – i was super tempted by everything, wanting to forget the diet I tell myself I am on every morning, I selected some yummy wraps and sandwiches along with some calamari – all very generous portions and all very delicious.

poolside at fairmont sanur

Wanting to explore a little more, we grabbed some bikes from reception which the Fairmont have available for all guests and cruised on up the paved pathway which goes for 10klms along the foreshore.

sanur beach This beautiful quite seaside village is stunning – riding along the beach the shallow waters are lined with colourful fishing boats on one side and market stalls, restaurants and spas on the other, no crazy traffic to contend with just other bicycle riders to watch out for. Complete opposite to its crazy sister Seminyak.

During our overview of the hotel we were taken thru the Spa, and liking what we saw – we decided to head back and partake in a few of their treatments. Well, we were totally beyond blissed out – foot massage, facial and relaxing body massage – I don’t think I actually woke up properly until an hour after leaving. If you are lucky enough to stay here be sure to visit – I haven’t felt that relaxed in a long long time.

Dinner via room service in our suite arrived quickly via our butler (hello) and was a perfect way to end the day, that was until we hopped into the king size bed… which was fluffy, white and just right.

sunrise fairmont sanur

Now, in Seminyak we get to see a sunset eveynight….. here in Sanur, it’s the sunrises that are super magical. Not wanting to miss out on this, we set our alarm for 5.45am and headed down to the beach to witness this magical ritual – spectacular. As hard as is was getting out of that comfy bed…. It was worth it. You must do this no matter where you are staying when in Sanur.

poolside at the fairmont sanur

I have to say I fell in love with with this sleepy village, especially the Fairmont – this beautiful beach front resort is large but you kind of feel like you have it all to yourself ? It wasn’t until we had breakfast in the morning that I realized that there was actually people other than us staying here. This place is so quiet, peaceful and very chilled out – the staff are AMAZING, friendly and very efficient all with big smiles that make your day.

If you are looking for beach clubs, loud music, sunsets and a bustling vibe, perhaps save that part of your trip for Seminyak. Sanur is so peaceful, pretty and romantic you will be happy just to lay around, read, rest, relax and unwind.

The Fairmont is one of the only beach front resorts in sanur with over 120 suites and villas, a kids club, a massive beachfront pool, a stunning spa service, I think 4 dining options, all that along with amazing staff with exceptional service – it would be hard to stay anywhere else if you were looking for a resort style holiday.

The snobs loved our 24 hours at the Fairmont Sanur – we will most definitely be back again soon when Seminyak gets a little crazy and we need somewhere nearby to escape.

STARTING THE DAY OFF RIGHT : Breakfast in the Yak

Our hood is known for its amazing restaurants, places where you wine and dine at night whilst watching the sunset, well you may or may not know it – but some of these places actually serve up some of the best breakies  that you will ever taste, and better still all at a fraction of the price that you will get at home.

Often  when you book your accommodation breakfast is included, like the resort style  buffet, where you have to stand in line waiting whilst the guy in front of you picks over the best pieces of bacon, or maybe you are staying at a private villa where they cook up the standard “American”  breakfast  (yawn) . Tip – take your accommodation without breakfast (it will save you money) and get out and try some of the incredible places you have more than likely heard about and probably seen on social media.

Seminyak is full of them – enough great places to have you eating the most important meal of the day somewhere different for your 10 day vacay.

Here are some of our favourites :

cafe organic

This place has rocketed to breakfast stardom over the last 6 months – purely because what they do is delicious, fresh and healthy. The menu is full of amazingness offering plates that scream good for you. The smoothie bowls make a great start to any day and come served in a coconut – too cute, that along with a green juice and top it off with a coconut milk latte , even if your not that healthy, you will feel it after that. If you want something bigger and badder for breakfast – two words Breakfast Criminal, this number comes stacked high to the sky with loads of tasty goodness and topped off with two poached eggs. YUM. And the aptly named Big Breakfast is enough to fill the emptiest of tummies. For lunch give the veggie burger a go or get stuck in to a salad, topped off with a smoothie, you will be full for hours.

We love everything about the Petitenget Breakfast, offering specials that change up daily, the breakfast is big and always comes served with a smile – my personal favourite is the Green Eggs and Ham I want to inhale it the minute it lands on the table. Chef Simon sources locally organic grown produce and you can taste it. The breakfast offering is large and has something for everyone, Granolas, The Gadang Breakfast Salad, Glutton Free Mashed Avo, Blueberry Pancakes – The juices are fab and land on the table  in a minature jug that you pour yourself (cute) and the coffee is just like back home.

breakfast sea circus

We adore this bright, fun, laidback and vibrant café !  Sea Circus do a great lunch and dinner, but their breakfast will keep you coming back each morning. No beach views here but what they put on the plate should keep your eyes and your tummy satisfied. The pesto eggs gets me every time but the dragon bowl served with granola, frozen dragon fruit, mango, banana and coconut water topped with a rainbow of fresh fruit is filling and tastes so healthy. Feeling a bit shady after last nights big one? Well Sea Circus have the perfect cure – The Happy Hangover Meal – served with a Berocca and a neck massage if required – hello brilliant! The staff are chirpy and very patient as you peruse the menu trying to decide what to try. Coffee is fab and their fresh juices are served super chilled.

Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 10.56.11 AM

Yes – I kid you not, these guys are open morning, noon and night – and Breakfast at the KU is made even tastier whilst looking out over the waves crashing down on Seminyak beach. The menu is small but is full of tasty selections, smashed avo (add a poached egg or two and a side of mushrooms), the breakfast burrito and the corn and zucchini fritters are favorites, and they even have a menu dedicated for the kids. A great choice of juices and smoothies – coffee is okay, there is better out there, but the food and outlook will help you forget about your caffeine addiction. Bring your bathers – as no doubt you will end up staying for the day and the pool is too pretty to say no to.

Another restaurant known for its amazing Italian dishes served up in the evening– but did you know La Lucciola is open for breakfast ? No – well you do now. We LOVE eating breakfast at La louch – not only for its perfect pre noon food – but because this beautiful eatery looks impressive during the day – not a wall in sight, this huge open restaurant looks out onto the gorgeous large green lawn stretching out onto the beach – you will be in heaven. Request a table on the first floor – views spectacular and you will appreciate the breeze coming in off the beach. Dishing up your more traditional breakfast fares – eggs benedict, hash browns, etc, you will find yourself sitting here for hours sipping on lattes or their fresh fruit granitas which will cool anyone down on a hot Seminyak morning.

Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 10.48.23 AM

Revolver Hidden just off oberoi and sometimes hard to find – but dont give up – this cool kids hangout is where its at, so popular, they have extended their café so to fit more of their devotees. Love the menu here not only for the deliciousness on offer – but for the names of the dishes ! The Smith & Wesson, the Double Barrel and of course the Revolver are must try’s – packed with yumminess – you wont need to eat again till dinner ! Loads of sides on offer if whats on your plate is not enough. Everything here is GOOD. I Love every single thing on the menu and better still – Hands Down – best coffee on the island, this shabby chic café serves up the good stuff.

There are so many amazing places here, some others to try, Shelter, Grocer & Grind, Watercress, Crate Cafe, Milk & Madu… the list just goes on. Next time your in town, make sure you skip the breakfast option at the hotel….. and give some of these gems a try ! Start your day right.

beach, bali, pandawa

beach, bali, pandawa

Scrolling thru your instagram feed and spotted beaches that you cannot believe are found in Bali? Well let me tell you something – they do exist and they are incredible! Bali is chock-full of beaches that scream AMAZING – some are just a short scooter ride away and some are worthy of 2 night getaways and many of them are so secret you may never be able to find them.

Pandawa Beach is very worthy of a day trip; it has just recently become quite popular, as word has spread about this amazing long stretch of white sand and crystal clear blue water.

This place is old school Bali – no Starbucks or circle k’s in sight, just beach umbrellas and sarong sellers as far as the eye can see.

beach, bali, pandawa

Getting there can be a bit of schlep. As you drive down winding roads that you think lead to nowhere, but believe me once you reach the descent  in that road that leads to the start of this stretch of paradise you will know you have arrived somewhere.

When you first hit the car park – you may spot many big busses – but don’t despair – get off your scooter and head down to the paved path take a right and keep walking, you will see lots of “tin sheds” all housing warungs selling the yummiest and freshest local food, gado gado, satays, nasi goreng and lots more. The brightly coloured loungers can be “rented” for the day all shaded by big beach umbrella’s protecting you from the hot hot sun.

beach, bali, pandawa

Snobs – Welcome to Pandawa beach. Picture perfect and pristine. Swim, snorkel, hire a paddleboat and head out to the waves past the rocks, where you will spot fish and be in awe at the crystal clear turquoise water.  Pandawa provides a perfect Bali beach day for everyone.

beach, bali, pandawa

Whilst you are laying in the water turn around and look up to the cliffs and checkout the lux villas that take in the magnificent view of pandawa from up high. These villas are all available to rent but you may need a lotto win to be able to afford the nightly rate.

beach, bali, pandawa

Looking to escape the throng of Seminyak, us Snobs suggest a day trip to Pandawa where you will experience the real old school Bali.

Snobs tip : If heading there for the first time – take a driver – it can be a little hard to find but once you have been once you will never have a problem finding it again.

Micks Place Bingin Beach

PARADISE GETAWAYS : Mick’s Place Bingin Beach

Mick's Place, Bingin Beach

Whenever someone hears that I live in Bali – often one of the first questions I get asked is “Oh do you surf?” Uhhhh no…. but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying the plethora of incredible surf beaches on the island, many within a short scooter ride away. One very special place is Bingin Beach – this serene beach is away from the madness of Seminyak and features a stunning stretch of white sand, caves, warungs, turquoise water with big rolling waves that are worshipped by the surfers that travel from all over the world.

There are lots of homestays, bungalows and villas sitting on the cliff front that face the water and provide the most beautiful views out onto the Indian Ocean that you could possibly imagine.

Mick's Place, Bingin Beach

One of our favorite spots to stay is Micks Place at Bingin beach. Paradise is exactly what comes to mind when you walk thru the bamboo gates and catch sight of the incredible outlook this cliff top resort is famous for. With 180-degree views of all the surrounding beaches – Padang Padang, Dreamlands, Uluwatu and Balangan you will find yourself gazing at this seascape for hours and hours.

Whilst Micks Place does not have the lavishness of a luxury resort, what it does have to offer cannot be replicated anywhere else in Bali. Consisting of 7 Beach Hut style bungalows – all nestled within a tropical terraced landscaped garden and all share a communal area. They are tropically traditional but, basic, you need to know you are not staying at “The Ritz” here, but the pure charm and position of this resort that no photo will ever do justice will win your “essential luxuries” heart over in an instant.

Micks Place Bingin Beach

The bungalows are super clean and comfortable, but simple, there is neither hot water nor air conditioning. But trust me even for this snob, it was never a problem. The breeze provides cool relief at night and pedestal fans are there for back up.

Mick's Place, Bingin Beach

The honeymoon bungalow delivers more of those added extras that some may care about, AC, Mini Bar, private infinity pool, plasma TV’s, a DVD and a stunning indoor / outdoor bathroom with a huge big round bathtub and double showers. You don’t need to be on a honeymoon to book this villa – however Mick’s is the perfect place for a wedding, hence why the whole resort is often booked out by groups of travellers all there to witness friend’s nuptials in this very beautiful and romantic location.

If you are booked into one of the other bungalows – there is an infinity plunge pool that juts out over the cliff and if you are like me… you will spend most of your days sitting here sipping on cocktails and taking in the panoramic delights. When your skin starts to wrinkle up due to excessive pool time – grab a menu from one the friendly staff and treat yourself to some authentic Balinese food, all healthy, using the freshest ingredients and available throughout the whole day. Make sure you are here at sunset – no words can describe the spectacular that we witnessed here.

Mick's Place, Bingin Beach

Another great thing about Mick’s is the wonderful travellers we met from all over the world – we spent the afternoon chatting to two Scottish girls who had just arrived and were awe struck at the beauty that surrounded them.

When you tire of relaxing, swimming, eating and drinking, take a “hike” down to Bingin Beach, take a seat at Kelly Warung, and watch the surfers tackle the barrels its famous for. The hike back up is not for the faint hearted – but if I can do it, anyone can.

Micks Place Bingin Beach

Micks Place and Bingin provides a relaxing Gilligan’s Island type adventure – it is literally a slice of pure paradise that you do not want to miss out on if you are travelling to Bali.

Want some where spesh to hang with your significant other away from the Doof Doof and smell of Hawaiian Tropic? Well a day, a night or a week at the Alila Seminyak may be just what you need if you are wanting to add a capital R into your romantic holiday. You will want to kiss your partner long and hard as soon as you walk thru the striking entrance of this beautiful ocean front resort – this place reeks of romance and love.

seminyak beach, alila,

Comprising of 240 ocean or garden facing rooms and suites that surround a vast communal area,  Alila Seminyak contains 4 bluer than blue swimming pools that look right out onto the sparkling indian ocean – this resort is first class all the way. The hotel is shrouded in vertical gardens, leafy plants and a gorgeous green lawn that rolls on down to the beach interrupted only by a tranquil Balinese temple – you are right in the heart of Seminyak but the peace and calm takes over you the minute you walk down those steps onto the lawn looking onto the beach, the beautiful big pools and the dramatic beach bar – everything so strategically placed that doesn’t matter where you sit you are able to see all the goings on.

alila seminyak, penthouse, resort

We head down to the Alila often to get away from the continual interruptions taking place at our villa. This is the most perfect peaceful place to lay and enjoy the beautiful surrounds, sip a cocktail, read, swim and enjoy the delicious pool menu.

alila seminyak cocktail

With its prime beach front position – it’s a given that the Alila is a perfect spot for a romantic sunset, and even better,  it doesn’t get quite so busy here and even if it did you wouldn’t notice because there is so much room to take in the show – that there is no possibility that anyone is going to get in your way.

alila seminyak beach bali

Get there early, make a day of it, lay yourself down on one of their oversized loungers or if you prefer the shade, grab a seat under the cover of the beach bar and sit back and enjoy Alila’s hospitality.

The pool menu is great (not enormous) and is more snacky type fine food, however the beach front restaurant is a stones throw away from the pool and offers a more substantial selection. The Beach Bar offers a good variety of cocktails to choose from and a small selection of wine.

We love the peacefulness of the Alila, its full of couples hanging out resting and relaxing, probably not a great idea to bring 20 kids with you, but if they are well-behaved, i am sure it wont be a problem

We are yet to stay at the Alila (we hope to do that very very soon) so when our villa gets noisy and we are in need of some peace we will continue to head on down there for the day and do what we love doing, sun baking, sipping on cocktails and enjoying the serenity of this sensationally beautiful seminyak resort.

Villa Shambala enjoys one of the best locations, you are just minutes from Seminyaks main streets where you will find an array of restaurants, boutiques and homeware stores. Kudeta is just a stroll away as are all the other popular must see spots.

This place is pure heaven,  you will find it hard to drag yourself away from the pool to leave to do anything – especially when everything and i mean everything is there for you, and if its not – the staff can go and get it for you.  Villa Shambala is ideal for a large family, or a group of couples / friends wanting to holiday together. merah putih, architecture, bali, indonesian

merah putih, architecture, bali, indonesian

This restaurant will blow you away in every way. Us snobs love coming to Merah Putih when we are in need of a dose of some delicious Indonesian cuisine, and of course some cocktails. The impressiveness of this venue never fails to fascinate me every time I walk through their doors, it truly is grand but in a very modern and cathedral type way.

merah putih, bali, seminyak

Merah Putih serves up traditional Indonesian cuisine but with a modern twist and offers small plates sizes or large plate sizes – again meaning easy share options, meaning you get to try more, meaning this is good. Our must try favourites are the Balinese Suckling pig – aka Babi Guling and of course the all time Indonesian favourite Nasi Goreng.

If you have a large group try to book the private booths upstairs, sitting in an open wooden cocoon, you are looking directly down on the whole restaurant – hello perfect position.

bar, merah putih, seminyak, bali

And, again, Merah Putih has an amazing bar, shaking up brilliant cocktails before and after dinner. The Cucumber and Mint Martini is a must try as well as everyones favourite the Lychee Martini. The staff are funny and fabulous and if there is something you want thats not on the list, no problem, these talented people will have no problem in  making it for you.

From Ambiance, Architecture, Service, Food and Presentation- Merah Putih has it all and is hands down one of Seminyak’s best restaurants and it must be on your list to visit when you are in town.

Oh my snob! Kim Soo is one of our favorite interior stores on the island. My heart starts to beat 1000 times faster every time I walk thru the curved and whiter than white entrance. Mentally in my head I start to re decorate my villa. Kim Soo is an interiors lover’s addiction. I have withdrawal symptoms every time I leave.
