LUXURY LAID ON : The Legian Bali

The Legian Bali

 the legian bali 7

With the Seminyak stretch filled with beautiful beach front resorts, each of them offering something different, it can be difficult to decide where you should stay, however, if your list of requirements includes, luxury laid on, ocean views, romance, an incredible location and a perfect pool – We can highly recommend The Legian Bali.

This stunning sophisticated resort may not be the newest on the Seminyak strip but she is most certainly the Grandest (a major refurbishment to upgrade all rooms and facilities did take place in 2012). Approaching her 21st birthday she has stood the test of time and is proof that luxury lasts forever.

the legian bali 9

Beachfront and so very beautiful, The Legian Bali offers the best of everything. With her distinctive Balinese style, this property is spread large with nearly every corner of the property looking out to the famous Seminyak beach.

the legian bali

The landscaped gardens are lush with THE softest and greenest lawn I have ever stepped on, the 3-tiered pool situated smack bang centre of the resort is so blue you will spend every daylight hour by it and if you are like me, will not move until the sunset is done and dusted, the poolside dining menu is delicious (snob favourite, the prawn cocktail – hello yumm) and the cocktails are served with smiles as big as the ocean this property faces. I can promise you all the worries in the world will be forgotten when you walk through the impressive entrance – this place literally projects peace and tranquillity.

the legian bali 6

Each and every room at The Legian Bali has ocean views, so no need to worry when making your booking that you will be in the back blocks facing a stone wall. The suites are large and luxurious, all with enormous terraces and jaw dropping views, obviously the higher you are the more you see, we were lucky enough to be on the 3rd floor – which overlooked the pool and an amazing view that stretched from Jimbaran to Pereranan.

Our 2 bedroom suite was huge and I mean HUGE !!! I could have held a party for 100 in this suite and still had room to swing a CAT. Dining area, Butlers Kitchen, Lounge area, a dreamy bedroom and a bathroom bigger than some people s apartments. Everything you could want, and some things that you didn’t realise that you would want are included in the suites. From the nespresso coffee machines, the ipod that plays various genres of music, the blue ray dvd machine, the dreamy bath products, the complimentary mini bar, the list goes on, and on.

the legian 2

I could spend hours, probably days laying by the Pool, 3 tiered and so very very blue, it is truly mesmerizing, with the 3rd tier being a long 30m infinity edge lap pool which sits literally just above the beach – I found myself grabbing a cocktail and watching the passing procession of beach walkers and gazing out at the waves all day, only moving to my lounger at sundowners to watch the spectacular sunset show.

Dinner is served poolside with romantic candle lit tables for two lining the terrace, if your Boyfriend hasn’t proposed to you yet, don’t be surprised if he gets down on one knee here. The food is delicious and cooked up by a some very talented (& quite handsome) Balinese chefs from their open kitchen – you can walk on over and watch them do their magic. Could not fault anything here – food, knowledgeable waiters, ambience – everything amazing.

I managed to drag myself away from my sun lounger to visit the spa and wellness centre for a organic deluxe facial and a foot massage – hello heaven. A treatment at the spa is must if you are staying here and the well equipped gymnasium will help keep the kilos at bay if you are on first name basis with the cocktail list and pool side dining menu.

the legian bali 8

Breakfast is delicious, served, again on the terrace looking out to the glistening waves.

There is obviously lots to see and do around the Seminyak area which is just a walk away, however, you will find it very hard to leave the confines of this beautiful resort.

Sitting regally and very proudly on Seminyak Beach, everything here is just perfect. I can see why this resort is the choice of Royalty and Dignitaries when they come to town.

If you want to spoil yourself, even if for one night, you cannot go past The Legian Bali.

NEW KID ON THE BEACH BLOCK : Finns Beach Club moves to our Hood

Finns Beach Club

I was beyond excited when I heard that Finns Beach Club (previously on the shores in Uluwatu) had decided to relocate to my side of town as much as I loved the old Finns, sometimes driving to Uluwatu in high season traffic really did my head in.  I don’t know about you, but I love a great beach club, and Finns new location at Berawa Beach, just a 10 minute scoot up the road from Seminyak is super easy to get to.

As expected, Finns not only secured the perfect beach side possie, they have improved their concept and is a great way to spend a very lazy day in the sunshine.

This absolute beach front venue is situated on the stunning stretch of  Berawa Beach where you can see surfers catch the famous surf break that this beach is famous for.

The phenomenal  bamboo structure was skilfully designed so no matter where you are sitting you are guaranteed to enjoy the breathtaking view, take the time to look up and look around as this structure is quite simply amazing !!!! and houses the surf bar, the dining area and the very beautiful sunset lounge on the 2nd level – again offering incredible ocean views – this can also be booked for private events.

finns beach club

The pool area is my favourite – there are lounges and day beds everywhere – or if you prefer to sit facing the beach, there are sun loungers lining the front of Finns all facing the ocean – but so close to the pool that you can turn around and quite literally fall in. And of course….. a fabulous the pool bar which is IN THE POOL where the cool Finns waiters shake up the best cocktails.

finns beach club

Sit back, relax, read, sleep, eat – just enjoy your day lounging around the pool and being looked after by the incredibly friendly staff. The pool bar menu is delicious, with a huge choice of all the yummy stuff, tacos, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, pastas, and of course all our favourite indo dishes are on the menu, the list does go on – with vegetarian and glutten free options – there is nothing they have not thought of.

finns beach club

Did i hear you say Drinks…. well it wouldn’t be a day out to a beach club if we didn’t participate in a cocktail or …. four. And Finns Barman shake up some good stuff – my favourite the Espresso Martini – is made to perfection. Huge choice here my friends… mocktails, smoothies, juices, sangrias and the wine list is small but includes some great vinos to choose from all at very reasonable prices.

Now sunset here is an absolute must – the uninterrupted 180 degree views ensure that sunsets at Finns are pretty special – with the palm tree’s and the waves – it’s truly picture card perfect.

Finns is such a great spot, this place is child friendly, but so huge that if you are not that way inclined, you wont even know they are there. Every afternoon at 4pm the resident DJ spins some tunes – if you’re in the pool duck you head under the blue water and listen to the underwater speakers. Hello fabulous you never have to miss a beat.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough…. awesome beach club, relaxed, friendly, fun vibe….. you will love it. I will be going back again and again to soak up this sensational new spot.

Finns is open 7 days a week from morning till late at night – contact them here to make a booking

PIZZA PARADISE: Hanks Liquor and Pizza

Lets get this straight, I love PIZZA, and have searched Bali high and low looking for pizza perfection, and finally I am positive I have found it – Hanks dishes up the best on the island.

Situated in Oberoi Street, but well past the crazy part, on the way to Kudeta, look up as your heading down the road and you will spot the Hanks Pizza & Liquor sign that shines bright and screams out at you “come on in”. You will find it right above the Sailors Falls Womens Boutique. Head up the flight of stairs and you have landed in Pizza Paradise.

Hanks Pizza

Slip on inside (where the AC is cool) or hang on the upstairs balcony and grab a seat at the long communal dining table – either spot is great with tunes playing and happy staff all ready for you, the whole place has a really hipster vibe that you can feel as soon as you hit that last step.

Hanks Pizza Grab a menu and this is where the hard part starts – what to choose? Everything on the menu is DELISH! Each pizza has a rock n roll name, but with massive Italian flavor – our favorites are The Dylan with pork and fennel meatballs, The AXL with spicy salami and the Siousxie with King Prawns and Roasted peppers – to die for I tell you. The crusts are thin and crispy and the toppings are generous and scrumptious.

Hanks Pizza

That along with some lip-smacking pasta (again amazing – try the Mac & Cheese –  again DIE – this dish is freeeking beyond words !) and some cool tossed salads, you and your mates can order a couple of dishes and share them all – a great way to eat, you get to try a whole lot more this way. Be sure to wash it down with a cold beer, or if you are like me and love a COCKTAIL, Hanks shakes up some absolute beauties. Try the Holy Bloody Mother of Mary, Watermelon Spritzer and trying to be healthy? Give the Health Kick a go, filled with Belvedere, kale, pineapple & lemon juice with a dash of coconut water – kind of like being healthy…but not.

Hanks Pizza

Everything about this place is hip, cool and crazy, from the urban edgy feel, to the menus that sit in old vinyl records. The bad boy rock n roll theme is laid on thick and contributes to the fun, party, cruisy atmosphere.

Hanks is open for lunch and dinner or even if your not up for a pizza it a cool hangout for a drink or 5  – they have two up Tuesdays and live music on Thursdays. You would be crazy not to put Hanks on your list for a cruisy night out with friends or family whilst you’re in town.

This super cool spot is sometimes hard to find – but once you do, you will find yourself coming back and telling all your mates about it – promise.

merah putih, architecture, bali, indonesian

This restaurant will blow you away in every way. Us snobs love coming to Merah Putih when we are in need of a dose of some delicious Indonesian cuisine, and of course some cocktails. The impressiveness of this venue never fails to fascinate me every time I walk through their doors, it truly is grand but in a very modern and cathedral type way.

merah putih, bali, seminyak

Merah Putih serves up traditional Indonesian cuisine but with a modern twist and offers small plates sizes or large plate sizes – again meaning easy share options, meaning you get to try more, meaning this is good. Our must try favourites are the Balinese Suckling pig – aka Babi Guling and of course the all time Indonesian favourite Nasi Goreng.

If you have a large group try to book the private booths upstairs, sitting in an open wooden cocoon, you are looking directly down on the whole restaurant – hello perfect position.

bar, merah putih, seminyak, bali

And, again, Merah Putih has an amazing bar, shaking up brilliant cocktails before and after dinner. The Cucumber and Mint Martini is a must try as well as everyones favourite the Lychee Martini. The staff are funny and fabulous and if there is something you want thats not on the list, no problem, these talented people will have no problem in  making it for you.

From Ambiance, Architecture, Service, Food and Presentation- Merah Putih has it all and is hands down one of Seminyak’s best restaurants and it must be on your list to visit when you are in town.

LETS EAT : Urchin Grill & Raw Bar Seminyak

This super sleek and very snob restaurant MUST be on your LIST when you visit Seminyak. Grab your significant other for a romantic dinner or grab a group of friends and sit at one of the high long benches – who ever you go with you are in for a snobby night.

Urchin Raw and Grill Bar

Situated at the front of the beautiful boutique hotel The Colony, Urchin Grill & Raw bar provides its diners with a mouth watering seafood experience in a very modern and sophisticated setting without being too over the top.  The open kitchen is a hive of activity and the centre of the room which allows you the see everything that normally goes on behind the scenes happening right in front of you. Our favourite spot is to sit and dine is to perch on the stools along the tall wooden tables which is a continuation of the Gin Bar and watch these disciplined chefs at work. The staff are great and very helpful, they know their stuff and explain  each dish as it is placed in front of you.

We keep going back to urchin again and again and cant get enough for their Yellow Fin Tuna Tartare, Urchin Fettucini (this is to die for), Crispy skinned Sea Bass and the delicious suckling Pig is a must. All these dishes can be shared (or if you are like me)  devoured all by yourself.

Screen Shot 2016-02-23 at 5.06.56 PM

Love a good Gin & Tonic – well these guys take it to the next level.  The relaxing cocktail area at the front of the restaurant is a perfect place for pre dinner drinks and well,  I have sat at the bar inside drinking late night after diner cocktails more times than i can remember.  Dare you to work your way thru their gin options….

urchin cocktails

The great thing about Urchin is that the food is light and you dont stumble out of their feeling 5 kilos heavier.

We love Urchin – you must put it on your List of places to dine if your coming to town.

snob tip : DONT MISS IT.

sunsets at kudeta

I’m super lucky to live within walking distance to Seminyak’s very glam beach club KUDETA, hence why its become my “local”. Most nights you will find me down there ready to take in the amazing sunsets that takes place right on their front door step. This place is an institution in Bali, and is on everyone’s “must do list” when they land on this beautiful island. A trip to Bali is incomplete unless you witness a sunset at this iconic beach front bar.

As you walk up the steps to the main entrance and are greeted by the friendly staff  you will feel the energy that this club is known for worldwide.  Get ready as the beautiful vista of Seminyak beach literally takes your breath away, especially if you visit around sunset time. This place is pure magic.

Lay back on one of the day beds, or grab a seat in what we call the “mosh pit” and you have literally got front row seats to one of the most spectacular shows on earth! A Seminyak Sunset.

front row seats

With cool tunes from the resident DJ’s playing, waves crashing on the sand, beach sellers trying to sell you stuff you don’t really need but cant help but check out – and the BEST people watching place in town – you will spend hours here and be captivated by what’s going on around you.

Cocktails are amazing and I guarantee you will down a few of them – I have drunk more Watermelon & Mint Martini’s than I have had hot dinners….. I can never stop at one, I have stumbled out of here more times than I care to remember (oops). The food is freeeking fabulous too, pizzas tick, (another great body is my personal favourite) sushimi  tick, tacos tick – everything is scrumptious. Or if you feel like something a little bit more spesh…. grab a table at one of their two restaurants – both of them will leave you wanting just a little bit more – all put together by the brilliant chefs Ben & Steve and their talented team.

sunset show

kudeta daytime

I can promise by the end of night you will be dancing by the edge of pool gazing up into the stars and by then you will know for sure you are in paradise.

Snob tip: always book whether it be for a day bed, a seat in the mosh pit or a table for 4 at the restaurant – you don’t want to miss a night at kudeta.  They have recently popped in a pool (as you do) making it a super cool place to hang during the day too.
