EDGY STAYCATIONS : The Edge Bali

It’s no secret that I like (well love) a little luxe in my life and since coming across the incredible insta snaps of The Edge, I immediately knew that this was a resort that I HAD to experience. On line I hopped and booked myself a one night staycation at what looked like heaven perched high on the cliffs of Uluwatu.

We were collected from our Seminyak villa in a sleek black people mover by a resort driver along with Apong, who politely told us that he was our private Butler for our our stay. HELLO, Im starting to get used to this private butler business, its one that many high-end resorts in Bali do offer, but I have to say, The Edge have got it right.

We were whisked off to our destination in complete luxury arriving to a lobby full of staff with smiles for miles.

Upon our arrival, we were given a tour of the property; I just don’t think there are enough words in the thesaurus to describe what lay in front of us. Sitting high upon the limestone cliffs, The Edge literally takes in the 180 degree views of the spectacular Indian ocean – this sight is quite simply jaw dropping and one that I spent a lot of time during my stay gazing at.

Apong escorted us to our villa, The One. For the first time in a long time I was speechless. Larger than you could possibly imagine, of course taking in more of those spectacular views,  this villa is fit for Royalty.  Contemporary Javanese styling, featuring a large lounge area, along with a beautiful dining area, floor to ceiling sliding glass doors taking in the views of the ocean and your private 20m long infinity edge pool that literally runs the length of the villa. There is a sprawling deck area, which I was told is often used for weddings, and I can see why, I could not think of a more beautiful place to hold my nuptials.

The bedroom was bigger than some of my friend’s apartments, lush, plush, lovely and luxe with more floor to ceiling glass sliding doors looking out onto your pool, but bordered with metres of luxurious black out curtaining. Walking through the stylish and super large dressing room, is the Bathroom – wow, wow and one more wow, marble, opulent and enormous. Separate shower, his and hers vanity, jacuzzi style bathtub, separate toilet and of course an outdoor shower.

This villa is meant for 2 but could very comfortably hold a party for 50 or more. Literally larger than any resort villa I have ever stayed in.

There is detail everywhere you look, whether it be the white robes placed beautifully at the end of your bed with a goodnight note, bookmarks left on your pillows, the amenities tray in the bathroom stocked with perfectly presented items. Everything is thought of here.

The Edge may not have a private beach, but it has the amazing One Eighty Sky Pool, this now very insta famous pool extends 6 metres over the clifftop, 150 metres above the waves and rocky shoreline below, featuring a glass bottom which gives you a birds-eye view to everything happening directly below you. I watched in wonder at the people taking their pics whilst leaning on the edge of this spectacular pool. I gave it a go myself, but being slightly scared of heights, it was only seconds before I quickly swam back to the safety of the larger in ground section of this big blue pool

One Eighty has a sand lounge where you can relax poolside on sun loungers or daybeds under big white sun umbrellas, the VIP lounge is rock star, and the enclosed terrace features a restaurant along with a sleek bar area, It’s a really cool place to sip cocktails, chow down on the delicious poolside menu, take in the view and of course, people watch. Best thing – One Eighty is open to the public, so everyone gets to enjoy this beautiful pool club, please note : bookings are required.

We spent the afternoon eating, drinking, lazing around our enormous pool, reading and relaxing. Bali bliss. Snob Tip : try the  prawns – om gosh – these little seafood critters are delicious and huge !

Our breakfast order was taken by Apong, before we went retired to our gigantic comfortable bed, and we woke to the most delicious spread of fruit, yoghurts, muffins, juice, coffee and eggs, as much as I tried to, there was just no way I was going to ever get through all this food. I did give it a red hot go though.

Apong, our wonderful butler, was literally with us throughout our stay, but we never ever noticed him. He just appeared when he sensed we needed him. At one stage it started raining, and like magic, he was next to us holding 2 umbrellas! Another thing I loved, there is no check in at reception, it’s all done via your butler in the comfort of your villa, need a massage at the Edge Spa, your butler will organise, anything we needed, Apong was available 24/7 to take care of us and I mean 24/7, as he was dimming our lights and wishing us a good night sleep, he reminded us that if anything was wrong even at 3am in the morning, just to call him and he would come to help. This is service – and goes hand in hand with this luxury villa.

The morning proved to be a little grey so decided that a gym session could be in order, and given that the gym at the Edge has one of the best views of any gyms in Bali, it made for a rather enjoyable workout. We then decided to treat ourselves to a one hour massage at the Edge Spa, the ambience is so relaxing – you literally walk through water to get to the massage table, again all taking in the most amazing vista. I left there relaxed and totally blissed out.

This stunning resort might be large in scale, but it is small whereby it only has 8 villas, keeping it exclusive, personal, and so very special.

The staff are nothing short of amazing (I seriously wanted to sneak Apong in the car back to my villa) the views are literally jaw dropping and the villas are most certainly fit for a king and queen.

We will definitely be back for another stay, but until then, we will be visiting One Eighty Sky Lounge very soon as I need more pics of that insanely infinity edge pool.

Makasih Banyak The Edge – we loved our staycation with you.

SUNSET SUPERSTAR : Kudeta

sunsets at kudeta

I’m super lucky to live within walking distance to Seminyak’s very glam beach club KUDETA, hence why its become my “local”. Most nights you will find me down there ready to take in the amazing sunsets that takes place right on their front door step. This place is an institution in Bali, and is on everyone’s “must do list” when they land on this beautiful island. A trip to Bali is incomplete unless you witness a sunset at this iconic beach front bar.

As you walk up the steps to the main entrance and are greeted by the friendly staff  you will feel the energy that this club is known for worldwide.  Get ready as the beautiful vista of Seminyak beach literally takes your breath away, especially if you visit around sunset time. This place is pure magic.

Lay back on one of the day beds, or grab a seat in what we call the “mosh pit” and you have literally got front row seats to one of the most spectacular shows on earth! A Seminyak Sunset.

With cool tunes from the resident DJ’s playing, waves crashing on the sand, beach sellers trying to sell you stuff you don’t really need but cant help but check out – and the BEST people watching place in town – you will spend hours here and be captivated by what’s going on around you.

Cocktails are amazing and I guarantee you will down a few of them – I have drunk more Watermelon & Mint Martini’s than I have had hot dinners….. I can never stop at one, I have stumbled out of here more times than I care to remember (oops). The food is freeeking fabulous too, pizzas tick, (another great body is my personal favourite) sushimi  tick, tacos tick – everything is scrumptious. Or if you feel like something a little bit more spesh…. grab a table at one of their two restaurants – both of them will leave you wanting just a little bit more – all put together by the brilliant chefs Ben & Steve and their talented team.

kudeta daytime

I can promise by the end of night you will be dancing by the edge of pool gazing up into the stars and by then you will know for sure you are in paradise.

Snob tip: always book whether it be for a day bed, a seat in the mosh pit or a table for 4 at the restaurant – you don’t want to miss a night at kudeta.  They have recently popped in a pool (as you do) making it a super cool place to hang during the day too.
